27-year sentence for Orlando man part of carjacking crew

A 27-year-old Orlando man will spend the next 27 years of his life behind bars after he pled guilty to a string of carjacking incidents in 2017.

Larry Burrows was sentenced in late April by U.S. District Judge Paul G. Byron after pleading guilty in February to a series of carjacking incidents perpetrated by Burrows and a crew of other individuals.

Burrows was the leader of the crew that, together, carjacked four victims at gunpoint in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties during January 2017.

Burrows’ crew consisted of three additional members: Jeffery Noel, Herichie Paul, and Awetu Megersa. Noel, Paul, and Megersa were all previously sentenced for their involvement. Noel received a 25-year sentence, Paul received 16 years, and Megersa received 13 years.

According to court records, in one of the incidents, a fast-food delivery driver was confronted by Burrows, Noel, Paul, and Megersa while attempting to deliver food to an apartment in Orlando. At gunpoint, the carjackers forced the victim into the apartment and removed the victim’s clothing. They took the victim’s cellphone, wallet, and the keys to the victim’s minivan.

Three other victims were carjacked by Burrows and his crew at gunpoint during the course of the next week, including a woman who was carjacked while returning from work.
