Lake Eola Park expansion breaks ground

City of Orlando officials broke ground for a new expansion of Lake Eola Park at the former site of a 7-Eleven that was demolished last year.

On Thursday, city officials gathered at the new site, which is located at the northeast corner of Central Boulevard and Rosalinda Park, to celebrate the expansion of downtown Orlando’s most popular park.

Last May, the former 7-Eleven located on the site was demolished to make room for the expansion.

The new, .12-acre expansion will feature artwork, updated lighting, sidewalks, benches, shade trees, and native landscaping.

The city acquired the property through a partnership with the Orlando Land Trust, who raised $3.25 million in addition to the $1.625 million provided by the city’s downtown community redevelopment agency.

The park is expected to be complete later this fall.
