Black bear at Disney leads to multiple ride closures

Over a dozen rides at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom were forced to close on Monday morning after state officials reported a black bear was stuck in a tree at the park.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the bear was reportedly found in a tree near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom on Monday, September 18.

In a statement, the FWC reported that biologists and law enforcement officers had reported to the scene. The organization says that although in most instances it would have allowed the bear to leave naturally, given the situation, staff was working to capture and relocate the bear as soon as possible.

As a result of the incident, multiple rides at Magic Kingdom were reported as “temporarily closed” through the My Disney Experience application:

  1. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  2. Country Bear Jamboree
  3. The Hall of Presidents
  4. Haunted Mansion
  5. Jungle Cruise
  6. The Magic Carpets of Aladdin
  7. A Pirate’s Adventure – Treasures of the Seven Seas
  8. Pirates of the Caribbean
  9. Swiss Family Treehouse
  10. Tom Sawyer Island
  11. Walt Disney World Railroad – Fantasyland
  12. Walt Disney World Railroad – Frontierland
  13. Walt Disney World Railroad – Main Street, U.S.A.
  14. Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room

The rides reopened on Monday afternoon after the bear was located. The bear was transported away from the area and relocated to the Ocala National Forest, according to FWC.
