Orlando man killed in fatal accident on Sand Lake Road

A 20-year-old man was killed after his vehicle crashed into another vehicle that was making a left turn off Sand Lake Road.

The fatal accident took place near the intersection of Sand Lake Road and Beacon Lake Drive on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at around 10:26 a.m., according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 21-year-old Orlando man was driving a 2023 Honda Accord westbound on Sand Lake Road, approaching Beacon Lake Drive in the left turn lane.

The driver attempted to make a left to travel southbound on Beacon Lake Drive when his vehicle entered the direct path of a 2013 Chevrolet Corvette that traveling eastbound on Sand Lake Road.

As a result, the front of the Corvette collided with the right front of the Accord, which caused the Corvette to run off the roadway. After it ran off the roadway, the Corvette overturned into a ditch and landed on its right side in the treeline.

According to witnesses, the Corvette was traveling above the posted speed limit before the collision.

The driver of the Corvette, a 20-year-old Orlando man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His passenger, a 22-year-old Orlando man, received minor injuries in the crash and was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center.
