Couple sues Disney alleging slip-and-fall at Magic Kingdom

A Massachusetts woman is suing Walt Disney World for more than $50,000 after she allegedly tripped over a barrier “due to poor lighting” and sustained “permanent” injuries.

Attorneys representing Angela and Bernard Dow filed the lawsuit on Monday, October 2 in the ninth judicial circuit court of Orange County.

According to the complaint, Dow and her husband visited the Tomorrowland Launch Depot, which is located at 1180 Seven Seats Drive in the Tomorrowland section of Magic Kingdom, on October 7, 2019.

During her visit, Dow claims she was injured when she “tripped over the protruding feet of the barrier that was not visible,” at the depot. She claims she could not see the feet due to “poor lighting.”

After she fell, Dow allegedly suffered bodily injury that required hospitalization, medical and nursing care and treatment, and resulted in a “loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life.”

“The losses are either permanent or continuing in nature and [Dow] will suffer the losses and impairment in the future,” reads the complaint.

The couple also alleges that Bernard has suffered “for an indefinite time in the future the deprivation of the consortium services of his spouse.” The Dows are seeking “in excess of $50,001, exclusive of costs, interest, and attorney’s fees,” according to the complaint.

The case is one of dozens of lawsuits against Walt Disney World that have been filed in 2023.

In September, a mother filed suit against Walt Disney World alleging that her son suffered “severe injuries” after he fell on a wet floor at one of the company’s resorts.

In July, a woman filed a similar lawsuit alleging she tripped and fell on a surface that was “uneven.”

Earlier this summer, a man filed a lawsuit alleging that he sustained “severe and permanent” injuries after he was thrown to the ground while on The Haunted Mansion Ride.
