Cat dies in Maitland house fire; dog, parrot and owners escape

An elderly couple, their dog, and their parrot were able to to escape a house fire in Maitland that claimed the life of the couple’s cat. ‘

Over a dozen units from Seminole County Fire Department responded to reports of a house fire on Ashwood Drive in Maitland on Tuesday morning at around 4:35 a.m.

According to authorities, the house fire started on the back porch before it extended to the kitchen.

An elderly couple inside the home was able to make it out safely, and they were able to bring their dog and parrot with them. The couple’s cat, however, was trapped inside the home and passed away as a result.

No other injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. According to authorities, the displaced couple is staying with family.
