Paulette Powell

Paulette Powell passed safely into the loving arms of her heavenly Father on June 2, 2022, for those of you who knew her, you share in this time of remembering. Our mom was perhaps the most forgiving and loving person I know. Growing up in South Jersey, she endured a lot. No matter what though, Mom always taught love and forgiveness.

Mom was fiercely protective of her children. Her first love was the Lord and then her husband, Richard Powell, they were married October 1964. Mom believed in the fairy tale romance, and God gave it to her with my dad. Dad was her hero, her everything. When my dad was diagnosed as a young man of 30 with Crohns disease and later diabetes, mom did extensive research on nutrition to keep my dad healthy. At the time, doctors laughed at her and told her to just keep giving him his pills. Now doctors know that diet and nutrition are very important to maintaining health in these types of chronic illnesses. I like to think that mom helped pioneer that. She always shared with people her knowledge and maybe someone reading this was lucky enough to get one of her green drinks. Dad bravely drank them all and reaped many benefits in his health.

Mom’s love for Jesus was evident in how she lived her life. She loved to share the Gospel with everyone she met. Every August when we were children, she would load up her station wagon to take children to VBS from the neighborhood. So many, in fact, that the church began to send a bus every year out to pick up all the kids at our house that she had invited.

Mom had the most generous heart and gift for loving others. She always tried to help those in need, and we would from time to time have different people, sometimes families come and stay when they needed help. Such a small house we grew up in, 5 kids, 2 adults and the occasional visitors. Mom and dad always found room.

Mom never thought she was brave, but she was. She survived and has gone on to try to imprint on those around her to be loving, to forgive and most of all to follow and love Christ.

She is predeceased in death by her beloved husband, Richard Charles Powell and her precious daughter, Melissa Lee (Scully), who we know greeted her with open arms when she entered heaven’s gates.

She is dearly loved and missed by her children Annette (and Joseph Costro), Laura (and Anthony Bushinger), Melinda (and George Hyland) and Richard Powell Jr. Dear Nana to Joey, Schuyler, Jon, Micah, Jonah, Seth, Chloe, Joshua, Jason, Hannah, Joanna, and Shelby. Dearly loved and missed by sister, Ellen Watson, and brothers Paul Thomas Corbin (Consuela) and Wayne Corbin (Sue) as well as many nephews and nieces. Predeceased in death by parents Mary Maxwell and Victor Corbin. Most recently living with her daughters in Oviedo, Florida, Paulette also lived in Dunn, NC as well as Deptford, NJ and Egg Harbor City, NJ throughout her adult life.

Our comfort is to know she is with our Almighty Savior. We have victory in Jesus. I Corinthians 15:55-57 O death where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
