Spirit cancels dozens of flights at Orlando airport citing inspections

An airline cancelled over forty flights at the Orlando International Airport on Friday citing “inspections” that are expected to last “several days.”

Spirit Airlines cancelled announced the cancellations on Friday, October 20, out of an “abundance of caution” in order for the airline to conduct inspections over the coming days.

“We’ve cancelled a portion of our scheduled flights to perform a necessary inspection of a small section of 25 of our aircraft,” reads a statement from the company.

The airline, which recently celebrated 30 years of service at the Orlando International Airport with the unveiling of 19 self-bag drop machines, estimates that the inspections will take multiple days to complete.

“The impact to our network is expected to last several days as we complete the inspections and work to return to normal operations,” reads a statement from the company. “We apologize for any inconvenience and are working to take care of affected guests.”

As of 8:30 a.m., approximately 41 flights had been cancelled, according to the Orlando International Airport flight board list. The list includes multiple flights in the midwestern and eastern United States.

The airline is asking guests to monitor their email and phone, as well as check the status of their flight through Spirit’s website.

Earlier this summer, Spirit unveiled the addition of a series of new, self-bag drop machines at the Orlando International Airport.
