2 million visitors estimated to pass through Orlando International Airport this week

Over the next 10 days, over 2,000,000 visitors are expected to pass through the Orlando International Airport as travel begins for the holiday season.

According to estimates provided by the airport on Thursday, the period between Friday, November 17 and Tuesday, November 28 will see an estimated 1,030,448 departures and another 1,032,245 arrivals.

The peak travel days in that span are both Saturdays (November 18 and November 25), and both Sundays (November 19 and November 25). On each of those days, over 180,000 travelers are expected to travel through the airport.

Arrivals and departures estimated by Orlando International Airport for Thanksgiving 2023

“Orlando International is preparing for the increase and encourages passengers to follow the 3-2-1 timeline. Our security checkpoints will be fully staffed, additional parking has been added and seasoned professionals stand ready to provide assistance to enhance the customer experience,” says Kevin Thibault, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.

The 3-2-1 advice is a mnemonic used by airport staff to remind passengers that they should be at the airport ticket counter 3 hours before their flight; at the checkpoint 2 hours before; and at the gate 1 hour before departure.

The 2,000,000 expected visitors is around 17% higher than the total departures and arrivals at the airport during 2022.

The airport says that this year, there are approximately 2,000 more parking spaces available than last year. Parking will be available at garages in Terminal A, Terminal B, Terminal C, the Terminal Top as well as remote lots, North Park Place and South Park Place. During busy periods, West Park Place and an Overflow lot, which includes improvements such as temporary fencing and lights, will also be activated.
