Sewell Renold Setzer Sr.

Sewell Renold Setzer, Sr. was born January 12, 1944 in Gastonia, NC to the late Sewell McCulloch “SM” and Mary Jane Paysour Setzer. He was preceded in death by both his parents, three siblings: Joyce Maria Setzer Harris, Larry P. Setzer, Samuel Lee Setzer, and Father-in-law, William O. Goins and Mother-in-law, Marjorie Stewart Goins. Sewell was a phenomenal husband, son, son-in-law, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. At an early age, Sewell, was baptized at First Baptist Church, Dallas, NC. He was a 1962 graduate of Highland High School in Gastonia, North Carolina, where he learned and enjoyed the game of golf.

Professionally, Sewell, was a long-haul truck driver. He graduated from Millville Trucking School in Millville, NJ. Sewell obtained his Commercial Drivers License (CDL), Class A, Class B, and Class C licensure. He was a member of the Association of Christian Truckers (ACT) and the International Christian Trucking Association. He carried his christian convection through many years traveling the roads. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local Teamsters Union 385. He was employed by Consolidated Freightways, Inc. in Orlando, FL, until his retirement. During his tenure with CF, Sewell, was awarded many certificates and awards regarding his safe driving skills. He was the recipient of the Shield and Safety Award and the “Million Milers Award”, where he drove over one million miles without any infractions nor accidents.

After retirement, Sewell, became a loyal sports fan of basketball, football, track, golf, wrestling, baseball, boxing, and swimming to colleges his children and grandchildren attended, The Citadel, University of Florida, Florida A&M University, Georgia Tech, the University of Utah, University of North Carolina, University of South Florida, and Winston-Salem State University.

He is survived by his wife, Gennie Goins Setzer, his two sons: Sewell R. Setzer, Jr. of Orlando, FL., and Myron J. Black of Kannapolis, NC; his four daughters: Angela N. Setzer-Smith (Justin), Seresaa K. Setzer (Cesar Cesareo) both of Orlando, FL, Tracy C. Setzer of Gastonia, NC, and Angela M. Nwoke (Daniel) of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his brother, Beaufort L. Setzer of Gastonia, NC, and sister-in-law, Mary Sparks Setzer of St. Petersburg, FL; nephew, Norman Harris and niece, Beverly (Billy Ray) Johnson and great nephews, Travis and Tremaine, all of Gastonia, NC. He was a proud grandfather of twenty one (Synjyn, Ashlee, Sewell III, Kayla, Jynsyn, Kynnydy, Zyhyn, Jalissa, Sergio, Steven, Xiomara, Robert, Arielle, Ashley, Christopher, Jr., Corwin, Jr., DeLauren, Elizabeth, Jolyca, and Joseph) and he was a great grandfather of four (Christopher, Jr., Jase, Nariyah, and Nevaeh). Eight Aunts: Mrs. Josephine Setzer of Gastonia, NC, Mrs. Dorothy D. Hawkins of Oxon Hill, MD, Mrs. Lola Garrett of Winston-Salem, NC, Mrs. Stella Williams of Troutman, NC, Mrs. Eunice Barton, Mrs. Louise Roberts and Mrs. Tweety Stewart, all of Bessemer City, NC, and Mrs. June Setzer of Charlotte, NC. In-laws: Rev. Dr. David E. (Brinderlyn) Brooks, Sr. of Oklahoma City, OK, Rev. Willie F. (Louise) Martin, III of Ogden, Utah, Mr. Clifton O. (Carolyn) Goins, Sr. and Mr. Bobby (The Late Carolyn) Elliott, all of Kings Mountain, NC and The Late Franklin (Linda) Goins of Greensboro, NC.
