Dominican restaurant closed after rat droppings found during health inspection

A Dominican restaurant in Kissimmee was forced to temporarily shut down after the business was cited for at least 16 health code violations, including the presence of rodent droppings.

Caney Restaurant, which is located at 4636 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee, was forced to temporarily close its doors on Wednesday, December 6, after failing a health inspection conducted by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

According the the report, the business was cited for 16 code violations, including three considered high priority. Among the high priority violations was the presence of rodent activity, as evidenced by at least 16 rodent droppings that were found during the inspection.

The report notes that rodent droppings were found on a shelf above a prep table, around packaged foods, inside the kitchen, and behind a stove.

The restaurant was reinspected on Thursday, December 7, and was permitted to reopen after it was cited for only six remaining violations.

According to health records, the closure came less than eight months after another failed health inspection. During that incident in April, the restaurant was closed after they were found to be operating with no potable running water and an expired Division of Hotels and Restaurants license.
