23-year-old man killed after motorcycle crashes into turning pickup truck

DeLand Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a 23-year-old motorcyclist on Thursday.

The fatal accident took place on Thursday, December 14, at around 6:17 p.m., according to a statement issued by DPD.

The motorcyclist, who has been identified as Preston Lee Johns, was traveling eastbound on International Speedway Boulevard, approaching the roadway’s intersection with Garfield Avenue.

As Johns was crossing the intersection, a Ford pickup truck that was traveling westbound on International Speedway Boulevard attempted to turn southbound on Garfield Avenue.

As a result, the pickup truck entered the path of the motorcycle. The resulting crash fatally injured Johns. The driver of the Ford suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
