Central Florida Scottish Highland Games returning next weekend

The 46th Central Florida Scottish Highland Games are returning next weekend with a series of cultural activities, musical performances, and demonstrations.

The games will take place on Saturday, January 13, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, January 14, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Central Winds Park, which is located at 1000 Central Winds Drive in Winter Springs.

The Central Florida Scottish Highland Games, the largest community event in Seminole County, is organized each year by the Scottish-American Society of Central Florida. The games were created to promote and preserve Scottish heritage.

On Saturday, competitions will include Scottish heavy athletics, Highland dance, bagpiping, and baking.

In addition to the games, the weekend will feature Border Collie demonstrations, Scottish clans, musical performances, a medieval camp, ax throwing, and other cultural activities.

There is also a Boulder Boogie, where contestants vie for bragging rights by carrying the heaviest stone the farthest distance without dropping it.

The festival is a family-friendly event and also features a non-competitive “Kids Games” version of Scottish athletics and other activities.

There will be food and drinks including beer, wine, whiskey, fish-n-chips, scotch eggs, and haggis tacos, among other options.

For more information on the games, visit the 46th Central Florida Scottish Highland Games webpage.
