City unveils new 35-foot sculpture visible from I-4 in downtown Orlando

City of Orlando officials celebrated the unveiling of a new art installation in downtown that is visible from Interstate 4.

On Thursday morning, city officials and staff, including District 5 City Commissioner Regina I. Hill, gathered to reveal downtown’s newest art display, Solidarity, which is located at the Colonial Drive Overpass at 42 West Concord Street.

The sculpture was created by Arkansas-based artist Hunter Brown and stands 35 feet tall. It is comprised of stainless steel, ribbon-like shapes that reach upward and hold a large, reflective sphere.

According to the city, the relationship between the forms in the design represents the relationships in communities and in the world.

Brown has artwork on display in private, commercial, and public art collections in over two dozen states and three countries. For more information on his works in other cities, visit Hunter Brown’s company website at Innovative Sculpture Design.

Solidarity is one of five public art installations being funded through the I-4 Ultimate Project Art Endowment Program. The goal of the I-4 Ultimate project is to enhance the I-4 corridor through improved function, connectivity, and aesthetic enhancements.
