Shots fired at Volusia park, deputies say

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting incident that occurred at a park in Deltona on Tuesday evening.

At around 5:30 p.m., VCSO deputies responded to Wes Crile Park (1537 Norbert Terrace) after receiving reports of shots being fired. When deputies arrived on scene, multiple witnesses advised that “young males” were in the back of the park with firearms, according to the sheriff’s office.

The witnesses told deputies that they heard gunshots and then saw several individuals fleeing from the area.

Due to the incident, primary voting at a nearby polling location was temporarily disrupted.

“There were no injuries reported, and no gunshot victims have been located at this time,” stated VCSO on social media.

At the park, the deputies were soon joined by detectives, as well as the Air One and K-9 units, and a follow-up investigation was conducted.

According to VCSO, detectives discovered that two juveniles, ages 16 and 17, were allegedly involved in the shooting incident. Both teens have been arrested.

The sheriff’s office stated in an update that the investigation is “continuing.” No further details were provided.
