Tropical depression ‘likely to form,’ two others being monitored by National Hurricane Center

The National Hurricane Center is warning about the possibility of a tropical wave turning into a stronger formation this week, while two other formations are dissipating.

According to the NHC’s tropical weather outlook released on Monday morning, a tropical wave is currently located around 900 miles east-southeast of the southern Windward Islands.

That wave is producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms. As a result, the NHC believes that a tropical depression is likely to form during the next couple of days, estimating the chances at 70%. Over the next five days, the center believes there is a 90% chance that a depression forms, with the possibility of the storm moving across the southern Caribbean Sea later in the week.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has scheduled one of its Hurricane Hunter aircrafts to investigate the system this afternoon, according to authorities.

Two additional formations are being monitored in the Northern Gulf of Mexico and the eastern Atlantic. According to the NHC, neither storm has more than a 20% chance of forming over the coming five days.
