Multiple drugs seized, passenger arrested during Clermont traffic stop

A 47-year-old man is facing over a dozen felony charges, including fentanyl trafficking, after officers found multiple drugs during a traffic stop in Clermont.

On Monday, April 22, the Clermont Police Department’s crime suppression unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of State Road 50 and Sandhill View, according to CPD.

After a K-9 partner alerted officers to the presence of drugs in the vehicle, a “probable cause search” of the vehicle was conducted. During that search, officers found a “variety of narcotics” allegedly belonging to a passenger who was identified as Jason Edward Garkowski.

No further details were provided by Clermont police regarding the vehicle’s other occupant(s).

Garkowski was arrested and transported to Lake County Jail. The police department stated that after arriving at the correctional facility, it was discovered that Garkowski was concealing approximately three grams of fentanyl.

Jail records show that Garkowski is currently being held on a $63,000 bond. He is being charged with trafficking in fentanyl (more than four grams), possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, possession of fentanyl with intent to sell, possession of buprenorphine, possession of methadone, possession of clonazepam, possession of oxycodone, possession of amphetamine, possession of MDMA/ecstasy, possession of THC, possession of cyclobenzaprine, possession of clonidine hydrochloride, possession of gabapentin, possession of marijuana (less than 20 grams), possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, and introduction of contraband into a correctional facility.
