Car hits Sunrail train in Maitland

Traffic was slowed on a Maitland road today after a car crashed into a Sunrail train.

According to the Maitland Fire Rescue Department, on Monday, July 11, Maitland emergency personnel responded to the intersection of Maitland Avenue and Horatio Avenue just before noon after receiving reports of a vehicle crashing into a train.

Authorities say the vehicle was traveling west on Horatio Avenue when it struck a Sunrail train that was northbound.

The driver of the vehicle, who was not identified by authorities, was transported to a local hospital. No injuries were reported on the train.

The incident caused a closure on Horatio Avenue between Maitland Avenue and Independence Lane earlier today. The road reopened around 12:45 p.m.
