Orange County police issue 100 tickets in school zones during first day back

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office issued at least 100 tickets to vehicles speeding through school zones on the first day of school this week.

The sheriff’s office says that on Wednesday, August 10, over 100 speeding tickets were issued to drivers speeding through school zones, which have a speed limit of 20 mph.

One of the tickets issued was to a vehicle that was recorded traveling at 57 mph, nearly triple the speed limit.

“We have zero tolerance for drivers who put kids in danger. Keeping students safe on their way to and from school is everyone’s responsibility,” says OCSO.

On Sunday, sheriff’s deputies will conduct a high visibility enforcement operation in order to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety. During the operation, deputies will provide education to drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists on the rules of the road, and may also write tickets, depending on the circumstances.
