City amends parking ordinance, removes minimum requirements downtown

Orlando officials approved a sweeping collection of changes to the parking ordinance, including the removal of minimum parking requirements in downtown.

The changes were approved during the August 15 meeting of the Orlando City Council. Multiple sections of the code were amended, including those concerning driveway dimensions, commercial and multi-family parking requirements, off-site parking options, and minimum parking requirements in downtown.

For residences in the area, that means a minimum of one parking space per dwelling unit, with a maximum of two spaces per unit.

In non-residential cases, hotels and motels must offer a minimum of .35 parking spaces per lodging unit, and other businesses must offer one parking space per 1,000 square feet of gross floor area. The maximum allowance is 3 parking spaces per 1,000 square feet of gross floor area.
