Free sandbags for Seminole County residents to prepare for heavy rainfall, possible hurricane

Seminole County officials are offering residents free sandbags in light of heavy rainfall and a possible hurricane that is expected to affect Central Florida in the coming days.

Empty bags and dirt are available to all residents of Seminole County on Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Boombah Seminole County Sports Overflow lot, which is located dat 3450 East Lake Mary Boulevard in Sanford.

Residents are advised to bring their own shovel and gloves and to be prepared to fill and load the bags themselves, according to county officials.

Staff is unable to provide assistance.

Filled sandbags can weigh approximately 30 pounds, so county officials recommend bringing a partner to assist.

Up to 15 bags are permitted per household. To learn more about sandbags from the county, visit the Seminole County Sandbag webpage.
