Orlando International Airport closing ahead of Hurricane Ian

The Orlando International Airport will cease operations and close off entry in preparation for Hurricane Ian.

According to airport officials, all facilities, including parking garages, will cease operation at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28.

“After conferring with the National Weather Service, airlines, and federal partners, it has been decided that commercial operations at Orlando International Airport will cease,” reads a statement from the airport.

Travelers are advised to contact their airlines directly for any updates regarding specific flights.

The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority has activated the airport’s Emergency Operations center, which is staffed by airport leadership, emergency response, and federal partners. The center will maintain direct communication with airline leaders and the National Weather Service to stay informed about the latest path.

Airport officials say the airport is not a designated shelter for Orange County residents.

The county currently is offering multiple shelters across local high schools.
