Lakes, rivers still closed in Orange County due to flooding, some Seminole parks open

Lakes and rivers, as well as multiple parks, are still closed to the public in Orange County as the area deals with historic flooding brought on by Hurricane Ian.

All lakes, rivers, and public boat ramps under Orange County control are closed until further notice. County officials are asking all residents to refrain from recreation and contact in and around local bodies of water.

Those bodies of water include all the lakes in the city of Winter Park, which are currently overflowing into residences and neighborhoods. The city says that boats, jet skis, and other watercraft wakes push water further onto lake properties that are already exceeding capacity.

“These wakes are worsening flood conditions for your neighbors…We know the sun is shining and folks want to get out, but please be a good neighbor,” reads a statement from the city of Winter Park.

In Seminole county, a collection of trails and parks are open as of Monday, including Red Bug Lake Park, Sanlando Park, and Sylvan Lake Park. For a complete list of which parks are opened, visit the Seminole County Government website.

In Altamonte Springs, Eastmonte, Merrill, Lake Lotus, and Cranes Roost parks are currently closed until further notice as crews deal with flooding. All park amenities are unavailable. The Lake Orienta boat ramp is currently closed due to unsafe water levels, and the City Library remains closed while it awaits restoration of power. Hermits Trail, Turnbull, and Sunshine Parks are all open.
