Orlando high school quarterback killed, two others injured while trying to help stuck vehicle

An Orlando-area high school quarterback was killed and two other people were seriously injured as they were attempting to tow a disabled vehicle and were struck by another vehicle that didn’t see them stopped.

The fatal accident took place on Sunday, October 23, just after 1 a.m. along Dallas Boulevard, just south of Oberly Parkway, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

An 18-year-old Orlando male, who was later identified as Nicholas Miner, was using his Ford F-150 pickup truck to pull another Ford F-150 back onto the roadway after it had become stuck on the east shoulder of Dallas Boulevard.

As they were towing the vehicle, a Honda Insight being driven by a 27-year-old Orlando woman approached the scene and failed to observe that the trucks were stopped.

The front of the Honda collided with the left, front side of Miner’s pickup truck, causing it to overturn onto the east shoulder.

After the collision, Miner was ejected from the vehicle. Two other people who were standing outside of the pickup truck, a 20-year-old Orlando woman and a 17-year-old Orlando woman, were struck as it overturned.

Miner was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The two women were transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

Friends and family have taken to social media to share an outpouring of love and grief for Miner, who was the starting quarterback at East River High School in east Orlando.

The family has established a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs.
