Habanero’s Mexican Grill closes UCF restaurant for third time this year after failed inspection

A Mexican restaurant near the University of Central Florida was forced to temporarily close its doors for a third time this year after another failed health inspection.

Habanero’s Mexican Grill, which is located at 12185 Collegiate Way in Orlando, was forced to temporarily close its doors on Monday, October 31, after it failed a health inspection by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

Ten health code violations were cited during the inspection, including multiple high-priority violations related to rodent activity. During the inspection, nearly 50 rodent droppings were found all around the restaurant, including 28 found under a three-bay sink.

Additionally, a stop sale was issued on cooked chicken and beans that were kept at too high of a temperature.

The restaurant was reinspected on Monday, and again on Tuesday, November 1, and no violations were cited.

Earlier this year, the restaurant was forced to temporarily closed on August 29, 30, and 31 after the inspector cited dozens of rodent droppings found over the course of multiple inspections.

In February, the same location was forced to temporarily close its doors after two failed health inspections with similar violations. During that inspection, at least 20 flying insects were found around the restaurant.
