George C. Lang

George C. Lang, 78, of Altamonte Springs, Florida, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2022. He was a faithful husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a master craftsman.

Born George Charles Oertel III in Washington DC to a wartime bride, he never knew his father, who was killed in Italy during World War II. Nicknamed “Sandy” at birth because of his sandy-blond hair, he would go by that name until the day he died. His last name changed when his mother remarried, and he was adopted by his new father.

Sandy grew up in Winter Haven, Florida, with his parents and his younger sister, Karen. In junior high, he notoriously poured soda on a younger classmate, Linda Ann Butler, at a football game. In spite of that first impression, Sandy and Linda dated in high school and college, and were married when he was 21 and she was 19. They were married for 57 years.

After college, Sandy and Linda settled in Altamonte Springs. A jack of all trades who loved to work with his hands, Sandy worked as a homebuilder, taught Industrial Arts, and eventually became vice president of a manufacturing company. Linda worked as an Elementary School teacher.

Sandy enjoyed camping and boating with his family, and was an avid FSU football fan. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved nothing more than teasing them and making them laugh.

Sandy is predeceased by his sister, Karen (Jim) Edwards. He is survived by his wife, Linda; son David (Lisa) Lang of Mount Dora, Florida; daughter Lisa (Jon) Marte of Hudson Oaks, Texas; and nine grandchildren: David (Caitlyn) Lang, Caleb Lang (engaged to Elizabeth Fisher), Bethany Lang, Lauren Marte, Alexa Lang, Alex Marte, Ariel Marte, Josiah “Jo Jo” Lang, and Gianna “Gigi” Marte.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews Chapel in Sanford, Florida on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 11:00 AM.
