Luz Delia Aleman-Carreras

Luz Delia Aleman-Carreras, beloved mother, grandmother, and educator, entered into rest on March 24, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years old.

Born on July 8, 1935, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, Luz dedicated her life to children and her profession of teaching. She was a beacon of knowledge, compassion, and inspiration to countless students throughout her career. One of Luz’s greatest joys was running into former students. Their encounters filled her with immense happiness, knowing that she had played a part in shaping their lives and futures.

Luz is survived by her children, William White (Glenis), and Michelle White (Renier); one sister, Elsie Romero; grandchildren, Reny, Nikole, Jackie, Neal, Stephany, and Cristy; as well as her great grandchildren, Gabby, Marcus, Kayden, Maddy, Liam, Logan, Thiago, and Ariah.

Luz will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to her students and family. Her legacy of love, wisdom, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Jean Rene Lalanne

Jean Rene Lalanne, 69, from Orlando Florida entered into rest on March 11, 2024. He was born on August 11, 1954 in Gonaives, Rue-De-La-Liberte, Haiti to Abner Lalanne and Ivana Saint Fort.

He is survived by 2 sons: Jerry Lalanne and Joshua Lalanne. 4 daughters: Joan Louis, Florence Ramos, Gabriela Loumi and Jemima Lalanne. 2 Sisters: Marie Jesula Saint-Fort and Marie Nicole Saint-Fort. 13 grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on March 29, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Gospel Assembly-Central FL., which is located at 8330 N Socrum Loop Rd. in Lakeland.

A funeral service will be held on March 29, at 12 p.m. at Gospel Assembly-Central FL., which is located at 8330 N Socrum Loop Rd. in Lakeland.

Anna Margarita Laureano

On Monday, March 18, 2024, our loving daughter left peacefully with our Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 48. Aanna was born on October 2, 1975, in Springfield, Massachusetts.

She was the first of five children of Angel Mario and Elizabeth Laureno: Anna Margarita Laureno, Damaris Laureno, Shaila Laureno, Arline Laureno, and Bryan Angel Laureno.

Anna was raised in a Christian home where she learned to serve God with all her heart. She remained strong and served God in both good and hard times. She married Julio Soto, and the Lord blessed them with a loving and humble son, Jeremy Elisas Soto. SHe loved him with all her heart and soul.

Anna will be remembered as a loving, funny, sincere, transparent, strong willed, and honest. Anna was an excellent daughter, wonderful sister, protective aunt, and loving friend to many.

She will be missed and never forgotten by her mother, sister, brother, nieces, and nephews. Lissenia, Shailiana, Jasiah, Jabez, Jaylin, Angel, Nikael, Janziel, and Keliel.

33-year-old woman missing out of Oviedo

Local authorities are asking the public for help to locate a 33-year-old woman who is missing out of Oviedo.

According to the Oviedo Police Department, at around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, Sary Chardon-Micheli went missing from her residence at The Ellington at Oviedo Park, which is located near the area of Mitchell Hammock Road and Clara Lee Evans Way in Oviedo.

Sary stands 5’1” tall and weighs 80 to 90 pounds. When she was last seen, she was wearing a dark hoodie, black pants, a dark gray shirt, and unknown color shoes.

Diane Elaine Baur

Diane Elaine Baur of Orlando FL passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2024, at 78 years old.

She was born on April 17, 1945 to the late Robert Francis & Mary Esther (MacTaggart) Morrissey. Diane spent most of her young adult life in Danbury CT where she waitressed in many establishments including the Exit 10 Diner, in addition to working for the Eaton Corporation in Bethel, CT. She later moved to Fredericksburg Virginia with her husband Frank Baur where they lived and worked for many years before opting for a slower paced life of retirement in Brookneal VA.

Along with her love for her large extended family Diane had a passion for animals and Elvis, collecting quite a bit of Elvis memorabilia. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening and bluegrass music. She was always happiest when hosting a house full of family and friends at her annual Christmas Eve party and when attending weekend Bluegrass Festivals which she & Frank did together often.

Diane was preceded in death by her husband Frank Baur, her parents Robert Francis & Mary Esther (MacTaggart) Morrissey, her sisters Sharon Stasny, Robin Coffey and Deb Brey; her stepson Matthew Baur and her granddaughter Kaitlyn Knapp.

Diane is survived by her children Karl Knapp (Diane) and Tracey (Knapp) Cunningham, Claude Mendes, Kleber Mendes (Shannon), Claudia Smith (Thomas) and Kelmy Mendes; her stepdaughters Tammy Simpson (Frank) and Tracey Taylor (Ricky); her sisters Betty Adams, Linda Tomanio and Barbara Gould; her brothers Robert Morrissey (Barbara) and Mark Spiegle (Andrea); several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and her beloved fur babies.

The family will host a casual Remembrance Gathering in honor of Diane from 1pm-4pm on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at the Hatter Park Banquet Hall at 7 East Hayestown Rd, Danbury CT and would be honored to welcome those who wish to participate.

Wayne Philip Reece

Wayne Philip Reece, 90, of Winter Park, passed away March 22, 2024. Phil was born to the late Ruby and William Reece May 24, 1933, in Rome, Georgia.

He attended Rockmart High School in Rockmart, Georgia. Following graduation, he attended Georgia Institute of Technology where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in industrial management. In 1955 Phil was called to join the Army where he had a 3-year long career as a specialist. During his time in the military, he married the love of his life Diane on September 12, 1956, and spent 66 wonderful years together until she passed in September of 2022. Phil was a very successful businessman from the time he exited the military.

He worked in sales for several years and worked his way up to being a partner for several major pool companies in Florida. He was also very involved in the local community. Phil moved to Winter Park in the Summer of 1960, 2 months prior to hurricane Donna. He became a partner and manager of a start-up company, Florida Pump and Supply. After 2 ½ very successful years he sold the company to Sta-Rite Manufacturing Company in February of 1963. Florida Pump and Supply is still in business today. At that time, he formed Tropicana Pools, which he took public in 1969.

In 1972 Phil sold his remaining shares in the business to the Goldfield Corp, and it remained in business until 1977. In 1968, Phil purchased several orange groves along with some investment acreage. Upon the closure of Tropicana, along with two former employees, he started Mid-Florida Pools. This company grew to be one of the larger pool construction companies in Central Florida. Phil was also involved in the formation and/or ownership of four other swimming pool contracting companies. From 1975-1987 Phil served on the Orlando/Orange County Expressway Authority.

While he was Chairman, the Authority developed and designed multiple expansion projects of the East-West Downtown Orlando expressway. Once he sold his interest in the Mid Florida Pools and Repair, he became a partner with Reeco Properties in Apopka, Florida from 1968 to 2024. Reeco Properties is a family partnership that he has with his son, Brian, that handles owning, accounting, building, managing, and leasing commercial properties. He was a very wise investor, which led to many new investment opportunities.

Outside of his time investing in properties, Phil was an avid golfer and had a passion for playing bridge and pool as well. He was a member of the Country Club of Orlando for 50 years and a proud member of All Saints Episcopal Church.

Phil is survived by his son, Brian (Tina) and grandsons, Cooper Reece (Julia), Tyler Reece, and John Reece. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Diane and son, Wayne Reece.

A celebration of Phil’s life will be held All Saints Episcopal Church on April 04, 2024 at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow.

Toilet thief wanted by Clermont police

The Clermont Police Department is asking the public for help to identify a man wanted in connection with the theft of a toilet from a local home improvement store.

On Monday, February 26, 2024, shortly after 2 p.m., the male suspect was seen entering the Lowe’s Home Improvement located at 1501 Sandy Grove Avenue in Clermont, according to CPD.

Once inside the store, the suspect placed a large roll of electrical tape, a laundry basket, and a toilet on a flat shopping cart. He then allegedly exited the store while passing all points of sale without paying for the stolen merchandise.

Clermont police stated that the suspect was captured on outdoor surveillance cameras placing the stolen items in a dark gray Toyota C-HR (pictured above) before leaving the scene.

Clara Louise Sullivan

Clara Louise Sullivan was born on October l3, 1932 in Key West, Florida to Quelina and Arturro Armayor.

She passed away on March l9th surrounded by her loved ones at Westminster Towers in Orlando. Her life was centered around her love for God, church and family.

She is survived by her daughters Amy Hicks (Mike), Wendy Yovaish (Darwin) and her son Barry Sullivan (Amorette) along with her brother Cucuito Armayor. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Clara was loved by many nieces, nephews, friends, and caregivers.

She grew up in Key West, Florida, the youngest of eight children. Clara met her husband of 67 years, Wayne, there before settling down to raise a family in Orlando. Clara was a homemaker and a faithful church member. She was president of Women of the Church for many years as well as served as a Deacon focusing on cares and concerns.

A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, March 27th at ll:00 AM with a reception to follow.

Walgreens to cut over 300 jobs as Orlando distribution center closes

Walgreens is permanently shutting down its distribution center in Orlando and laying off more than 300 employees at the facility.

Earlier this month, Walgreens made the announcement in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filing with the Florida Department of Commerce.

Walgreens stated that after a “careful review” of its operations, the company has made the “difficult decision” to close its Orlando distribution center, which is located at 2455 Premier Row.

According to Walgreens, “employment separations” are expected to commence on or around May 17, 2024. Among those scheduled for layoff are 324 employees from the distribution center in Orlando.

The filing shows that on March 14, 2024, all affected employees were given a 60-day notice of their termination. Those affected will continue to receive their full compensation and benefits for the entire 60-day period or until they resign, whichever occurs first.

In addition, Walgreens stated that the affected employees will have the opportunity to participate in on-site career fairs and/or outplacement services to assist their transition to other employment.

The affected employees are not represented by a union and have no bumping rights, according to the filing.

Betty Lou Brooks, age 89, of Sanford, Florida passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, 5000 CR 46A, Sanford, Florida 32771.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the funeral home with interment to follow in Oaklawn Park Cemetery.
