Leslie K. Doster

Leslie Kyte Doster passed away peacefully November 22, 2022, in Winter Park, in the presence of her family. She was born on October 26, 1942, in West Palm Beach, Florida, to Ruth and Leslie (Jack) Kyte.

Leslie had several avocations and occupations, and found her greatest passion in studying speech and hearing disorders and helping individuals experiencing them. While a homemaker raising her sons, surgery to remove a brain tumor left her without hearing in one ear and damage to a facial nerve. This inspired Leslie to go back to school to earn a Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Central Florida, as her sons were completing high school. For more than 20 years thereafter, Leslie served as a teacher and therapist, assisting those facing difficulties with hearing and speech. She taught as an adjunct instructor at UCF, supervised the university’s audiology clinic, and provided therapy in private practice to patients with auditory processing disorders.

Leslie graduated from West Palm Beach High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, in 1964. At BW, she met and fell in love with William (“Bill”) Doster, and they married and moved to Michigan. While Bill earned a law degree in Ann Arbor, Leslie taught high school chemistry and worked for a pharmaceutical company. The couple moved to Central Florida, where Bill began his career as a commercial real estate attorney and founding partner of a major law firm in Orlando. Leslie devoted her time to raising their sons while she managed the household and enjoyed playing tennis.

As she and Bill eased into retirement, Leslie welcomed three grandchildren into her life, and was overjoyed to spend time with them and watch them pursue musical interests and sports. Leslie and Bill spent their summers in Highlands, North Carolina, where they escaped the Florida heat to enjoy golfing, croquet, reading, and touring the mountains. Leslie continued to serve others by teaching literacy to adult students in both Central Florida and Western North Carolina.

Leslie was an inspiration for all who knew her, and a pillar of support and connection for members of the Doster and Kyte families. She maintained her positive spirit and determination in the face of declining health from cancer and the loss of her husband and other family.

Leslie is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Anderson, Maitland, Fla., two sons: William (Bill) Doster Jr., his wife, Michelle, and their daughter, Brooke, of Maitland, Fla., and Brian Doster, his wife, Kathleen, and their children, Molly and Brady, of Arlington, Va., as well as two nephews.
