Multiple lanes of Interstate 4 were temporarily closed on Wednesday morning after a semi-truck crashed and rolled over onto the highway.
The incident took place on westbound I-4 at mile marker 62 (World Drive) in Kissimmee and involved a septic tanker truck, a Walmart semi-truck, and a 2022 Kia Forte.
According to authorities, all three vehicles were traveling westbound on I-4, in the outside lane.
The driver of the septic tanker truck failed to stop for the Walmart semi-truck that was ahead of it, which caused the front end of the tanker truck to collide with the rear of the Walmart vehicle.
The collision caused the Walmart semi-truck to collide with the back of the Kia.
The initial impact caused the septic tanker truck driver to lose control, overturning the vehicle in the westbound lanes of I-4.
The driver of the septic tank, a 41-year-old man from Lakeland, was airlifted to Osceola Regional Hospital in critical condition. A passenger in the vehicle was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the Walmart semi-truck, a 37-year-old Kissimmee man, and the driver of the Kia, a 27-year-old Cape Coral man, were not injured in the accident.
Traffic was temporarily diverted onto World Drive after a roadblock was put in place. That roadblock has been cleared for the inside and center lanes of westbound I-4, according to authorities. As of 10:30 a.m., there was still a roadblock in place for the outside lane and a lane on the World Drive exit ramp.
