7-year-old killed riding bike in Pine Hills

A 7-year-old boy was killed after his bicycle was struck by a vehicle in Pine Hills this weekend.

The fatal accident took place on Sunday, April 2, at around 3:24 p.m., according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The child was riding his bicycle eastbound on a bike trail located at Dolores Drive, just west of County Road 431. The child exited the bike trail and entered the direct path of a Dodge Ram being driven by a 36-year-old Orlando man.

The pickup truck was unable to avoid the child and struck him, ejecting him from his bike and onto the left turn lane, south of Dolores Drive.

The vehicle exited the right side of the roadway and struck two curbs before continuing onto the front lawn of multiple residences and striking a large rock. The vehicle then continued south and eventually crashed into a large business sign.

The child was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver was transported to Health Central Hospital in serious condition.
