A grand jury has indicted a 19-year-old Orlando man who is accused of killing a 9-year-old girl, a Spectrum News reporter, and a 38-year-old woman in two separate shootings in Pine Hills in late February.
Keith Melvin Moses was indicted by a grand jury on Thursday, March 30, on over a dozen counts relating to the shootings that killed three and critically injured two others on February 22. Moses entered a plea of not guilty on March 6.
The 16 counts include three first degree murder charges, two attempted first degree murder charges, and multiple other charges related to the two shootings.
Moses was arrested after a second shooting on February 22. Earlier that day, Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the Pine Hills community after 38-year-old Natacha Augustin was shot and killed. At the time, Augustin was riding as a passenger in the front seat of a vehicle being driven by one of Moses’ cousins. That cousin spotted Moses and allowed him to enter the vehicle in the back seat. Within 30 seconds, Moses allegedly fatally shot Augustin.
Augustin was pronounced deceased at around 11:29 a.m., approximately 15 minutes after the first 911 call was made. In the hours that followed, detectives worked to canvas the scene and by 3:21 p.m., the roadway was reopened and the scene was cleared.
Within 40 minutes of the scene being closed, Spectrum News 13 reporter Dylan Lyons and photographer Jesse Walden arrived on the scene to cover the incident for the channel’s 5 p.m. broadcast. According to Walden, Moses walked up to the van, opened fire on him, and then turned his attention to Lyons, who was seated in the passenger seat of the vehicle. Moses then allegedly fatally shot Lyons.
After the shooting, Moses walked to a nearby home and entered through an unlocked sliding glass door. While in the home, Moses allegedly shot 9-year-old T’Yonna Major before shooting her mother, Brandi Major, who was taking a nap.
When deputies arrived, they found Moses at the intersection of Bolling Drive and Hialeah Street, a couple blocks away from the shootings. Moses was arrested and was in possession of a gun that was hot to the touch. Police have since linked the gun with all three shootings.
During an interview, authorities say Moses refused to say anything and kept his eyes shut throughout the conversation.
