New Peking Buffet closes after rats, roaches found in coolers, storage rooms

A Chinese buffet in Casselberry was forced to temporarily close its doors after rats and rodents were found during a health inspection.

New Peking Buffet, which is located at 100 Live Oaks Boulevard in Casselberry, was forced to close its doors on Tuesday, March 28, after an inspector from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation cited at least 22 health code violations.

Among the violations were seven considered high priority. During the inspection, at least four roaches were found over a sink and near a walk-in cooler. Additionally, over 70 rodent droppings were found in multiple areas around the restaurant and kitchen.

Multiple items were being stored at temperatures greater than what is permitted, including chicken, beef, and shrimp. The inspector also noted that food-contract surfaces were not sanitized before they were used.

The restaurant was reinspected on Wednesday, March 29, and was permitted to reopen despite seven violations remaining.
