Fourth pedestrian killed crossing Colonial Drive in past month

A 52-year-old man was killed while he was attempting to cross Colonial Drive in Orange County late last night.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal accident took place at around 12:09 a.m. near the intersection of State Road 50/E Colonial Drive and St. Nicholas Avenue.

A 30-year-old Orlando man was driving his 2007 Toyota Tacoma eastbound on SR 50, just east of St. Nicholas Avenue in the outside lane. The pedestrian, who was from Christmas, was walking in a northerly direction and entered the eastbound, outside lane.

The man was not in a crosswalk when he walked into the direct path of the pickup truck. As a result, the front of the truck collided with the man.

He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash and remained at the scene.

The incident marks the fourth pedestrian fatality on Colonial Drive over the past several weeks.

Last week, a 60-year-old Orlando man was killed while he was walking southbound across Colonial Drive, near Sandy Lane.

In the beginning of March, a 51-year-old Orlando man was killed while attempting to cross Colonial Drive near County Road 13.

Just one week before that incident, a 29-year-old mother was killed and her 2-year-old boy was critically injured after both were hit while crossing Colonial Drive.
