China Gourmet closes after dozens of roaches found during inspection

A Chinese restaurant in Kissimmee was forced to close after dozens of roaches were found during a recent health inspection.

China Gourmet, which is located at 3066 Dyer Boulevard in Kissimmee, was forced to temporarily close its doors on Wednesday, April 5, after a failed inspection conducted by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

During the inspection, at least a dozen and a half violations were cited, including four considered high priority. Among the high priority violations was the accumulation of dozens of roaches on traps and pest control devices throughout the restaurant. The inspector cited at least three sticky strips with a total of at least 45 dead roaches in various places around the kitchen.

Additionally, the inspector found at least 20 living roaches underneath cooking equipment and and near a hand sink.

The restaurant was permitted to reopen the following day after only eight violations were cited during a follow-up inspection.
