A 58-year-old man has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting that took place in Oak Ridge over the weekend, marking at least the fourth homicide in the community since November.
On Tuesday, Orange County Sheriff’s Office identified James Cooper as the victim of a shooting that took place on Saturday, May 27 in the Oak Ridge community.
That morning, deputies were called to the 2000 block of Rivertree Circle in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located Cooper suffering from gunshot wounds.
Cooper was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Police say they have no suspect information available at this time and are currently investigating all leads in the case.

Cooper’s death follows several months of shootings that have claimed the lives of multiple individuals in the small community of Oak Ridge, which is a suburb of Orlando with an estimated population of over 25,000 residents.
In late April, 38-year-old Manuel DeJesus Guevara-Perez was found suffering from gunshot wounds just a few blocks away from where Saturday’s shooting took place. After the shooting, Guevara-Perez, who had celebrated his 38th birthday just a few weeks before, was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
In early April, 29-year-old Michele Lynn Mossuto, was found suffering from gunshot wounds in the area of South Orange Blossom Trail and Americana Boulevard. She died from her injuries a short time thereafter and, in the weeks since, police have arrested 25-year-old Kyle Carnley in connection with the shooting.
In January, an Amazon driver was held at gunpoint inside his vehicle while two suspects robbed him at Caden Apartments, which is located at 1953 Americana Boulevard. Both of the suspects in that incident were arrested.
Last month, Darrius Jaques Garrett was sentenced to spend seven years and six months in federal prison in connection with a shooting at a shopping plaza located at 2200 Americana Boulevard in May 2022. Despite sustaining gunshot wounds in his abdomen and torso, the victim in that case survived.
