The Seminole County Fire Department is offering residents free pool/door alarms to help keep their children safe.
SCFD has partnered with The Gunner Martin Foundation to distribute free pool and door alarms to residents who have a pool or live near a body of water.
Alarms are available for pickup at the Central Branch Library, which is located at 215 N. Oxford Road in Casselberry. Alarms are limited to one per household, while supplies last.
Pool alarms are installed on doors leading to the pool area of a home. They alert parents and caregivers when outside doors are opened, preventing children from letting themselves out to a pool area unattended.
Pool alarms are one of the barriers of protection to prevent pediatric drowning.
In March, a 2-year-old child was saved after she was found unresponsive in a Deleon Springs pool.
