Woman killed driving wrong way in DeLand

A 60-year-old woman was killed while she was driving the wrong way on a DeLand roadway this weekend.

The fatal accident took place near the intersection of Spring Garden Avenue and Glenwood Road on Sunday, June 4, at around 9:07 p.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman was driving a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria northbound in the southbound, inside lane of Spring Garden Avenue, approaching Glenwood Road.

As a result, her vehicle collided head-on with a 2019 Nissan Rogue Sport being driven by a 42-year-old woman from DeLand.

The collision caused the Nissan to overturn onto its left side. After the vehicles collided, debris from the collision struck a 2015 Nissan Altima being driven by a 23-year-old Deltona man.

The woman driving the Ford, who was from Barberville, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The woman driving the Nissan was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center with critical injuries.

The Deltona man was not injured in the crash and remained at the scene.
