An Orlando man confessed to committing four robberies at local vape shops after he was caught a short time after allegedly committing one.
Orlando Police Department officers arrested 24-year-old Andrew David Hummel on Friday, July 28, on multiple felony charges related to separate robberies over the preceding days.
According to authorities, on July 25, at approximately 2:40 p.m., officers responded to 4484 S. Semoran Boulevard in reference to a commercial robbery. Witnesses say that the suspect entered the store, showed a weapon, and demanded money from the cash register before fleeing the store.
The witnesses described the suspect as a white man with red hair and a red beard.
After the robbery, OPD Violent Crimes Detectives began actively working the case and identified the suspect as Hummel. After identifying him, police learned that Hummel was also a suspect in a robbery that took place in Casselberry the day prior.
On Thursday, July 27, two more commercial robberies were perpetrated at Elpopo Smokeshop (1627 S. Conway Road) and Wild King Smoke Shop (2516 S. Semoran Blvd). In both instances, witnesses provided the same description of the suspect.
Detectives responded to both scenes and, using surveillance video, were able to identify Hummel as the suspect in both robberies.
A short time later, members of the Fugitive Investigative Unit were able to locate Hummel and he was taken into custody. During an interview at the Orlando Police Headquarters, Hummel confessed to committing all three robberies in Orlando and the one in Casselberry.
Hummel was booked into the Orange County Jail and is facing at least three counts of robbery with a deadly weapon, three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and grand theft. He also faces additional charges for the robbery committed in Casselberry.
