Pizzeria closes for 3rd time in past 18 months after failing health inspection

A pizzeria near downtown Orlando was forced to temporarily close its doors for a third time since last year after a health inspector found multiple health code violations, including roaches on a pizza oven.

Brick and Fire, which is located at 1621 S Orange Avenue in the South Downtown District, was forced to temporarily close shop on Thursday, August 3, after failing a health inspection conducted by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

According to a health inspection report filed by the FDBPR, during an inspection on August 3, at least 19 health code violations were cited, including five considered high priority.

Among the high priority violations was the presence of live small flying insects in the kitchen. In total, 10 flying insects were found around the cook line, at the hand sink, and at other places around the kitchen.

Additionally, at least four live roaches were found during the inspection, including two live roaches on the brick wall of a pizza oven. Another six dead roaches were found in various places around the kitchen.

The restaurant was reinspected on Friday, August 4, and was permitted to reopen after only six violations remained.

Last year, the business was closed on May 16, 2022 after it was cited for 13 health code violations, including a stop sale on items made with corn meal and flour, which had been tampered with by rodents.

Brick and Fire was also forced to close on March 15, 2022 due to 19 health code violations. During that visit, the inspector found nearly 70 rodent droppings around the kitchen and appliances.
