Upscale, modern Latin restaurant now open in Winter Park

A world renowned chef who operates multiple restaurants and has appeared on Food Network has opened a new restaurant that offers “bold, modern Latin-forward dining.”

Chayote Barrio Kitchen is officially open for business at 480 Orlando Avenue, in the Winter Park Village.

A creation of chef Mario Pagán’s, the new restaurant bills itself as the Nueva Mesa Latina (“New Latin Table”), with a vision of celebrating the “heritage and culinary footprint of all Hispanic cultures.” Pagán currently operates four restaurants in Puerto Rico. He was featured as a chef on the “Next Iron Chef,” and has hosted two cooking television series on FOX Latino.

From oye (small bites) to mesa (main courses), the menu at Chayote fuses traditional Latin flavors with modern twists. Starters include alcapurrias, yuca frita, corquetas, and a vegan sancocho, which is a stew that features corn, malanga, yuca, carrots, and boniato.

Main courses range from land to sea, including arroz con pollo, langosta (lobster thermidor), lechón, and adobo lamb, among several others.

In addition to a complete complement of salads and sweets, Chayote features a full bar with multiple “featured cocktails.”

The new restaurant is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m.
