Fentanyl dealer gets 15 years for overdose death

A 38-year-old woman from Poinciana will spend the next 15 years behind bars for distributing fentanyl to an individual who subsequently overdosed and died in her presence.

Anna Parsons was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for fentanyl distribution and possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl by U.S. Middle District of Florida Judge Wendy Berger this week. Parsons pled guilty to the charges this past August.

According to court records, Parsons visited a homeless encampment on March 15, 2022 at around 1 a.m. in order to sell fentanyl to one of the inhabitants.

While she was there, Parsons sold fentanyl to two individuals, one of which became unresponsive after using the drug.

Parsons attempted to get Narcan but did not call 911 until around 10:30 a.m., after the individual had stopped breathing.

A forensic examination by the Medical Examiner’s Office later concluded that the individual had died from fentanyl toxicity.

Despite attempts to mislead police regarding the circumstances of the individual’s death, during a search of Parsons’ apartment, authorities located approximately 158 grams of fentanyl and determined that she had been distributing fentanyl regularly.
