Motorcyclist killed in hit-and-run crash at Orlando intersection

A 27-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash that occurred early Saturday morning at an intersection in Orlando.

At around 2:40 a.m. a 2022 Toyota Camry was traveling westbound on W Oak Ridge Road, near the intersection of S John Young Parkway, in the inside lane, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP stated that at the same time, a 2024 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-64 motorcycle was heading northbound on S John Young Parkway as it approached the intersection of W Oak Ridge Road.

In the report, a trooper noted that the traffic light was red as the Toyota Camry approached the intersection. The sedan proceeded to stop within the intersection, placing the vehicle directly in the path of the motorcycle.

Moments later, as the motorcycle began traveling through the intersection, it crashed into the left rear side of the sedan. Due to the impact, the motorcycle’s rider and sole occupant, a 27-year-old man from Altamonte Springs, was thrown off the vehicle.

After the collision, the driver of the Toyota Camry fled from the scene of the crash on foot. The sedan’s sole passenger, a 46-year-old Ocoee woman, was not injured and remained at the scene.

The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. His name was not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers interviewed the sedan’s female passenger. According to FHP, an investigation is still underway to determine the identity of the Toyota Camry’s driver, and the sedan has been secured as evidence.

FHP stated that the hit-and-run driver was described as a Black man who was wearing a black shirt, tan pants, and white shoes. No further details were provided.
