A man was killed on Sunday night after his vehicle collided with a semi-truck and burst into flames on the Florida Turnpike in Orange County.
At around 11:45 p.m., a 1998 Honda Civic and semi-truck were traveling northbound in the outside lane on the Florida Turnpike, near mile marker 258. The sedan was traveling directly behind the semi-truck, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Witnesses told FHP that the sedan was traveling above the posted speed limit moments before the crash. The driver failed to slow down for the traffic ahead, and the front of his vehicle proceeded to strike the rear of the semi-truck.
Flames quickly engulfed the sedan after the collision. The vehicle’s driver, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A trooper noted in the report that the medical examiner’s office will update FHP once the sedan’s driver has been positively identified.
The driver of the semi-truck, a 51-year-old man from West Palm Beach, was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
