19-year-old dies after crashing motorcycle in Orlando

A 19-year-old man from Orlando was killed early Friday morning after he fell off his motorcycle while trying to avoid a collision in Orange County.

At around 1:05 a.m., the man was heading southbound on Goldenrod Road, near the intersection of Mai Tai Drive, on a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle. He was traveling in the inside lane, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

A trooper noted in the report that a second vehicle, a 2021 Nissan Rogue, was heading northbound on Goldenrod Road, near the same intersection, in the inside left turn lane.

The driver of the SUV, identified in the report as a 57-year-old Orlando man, proceeded to make a left turn to travel westbound onto Mai Tai Drive. During the turn, his vehicle entered the direct path of the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist swerved to avoid a collision, which caused him to lose control and fall off the motorcycle.

The rider and sole occupant of the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The report stated that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The SUV’s driver and sole occupant was not injured, and he remained at the scene of the accident.

No further details were provided in the report. The crash is still under investigation, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
