It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of the complex and beloved Jerry Wilbur Johnson of Orlando, Florida. A cherished father, son, and brother, who was often referred to as “Pip”, Jerry transcended the mortal realm on Sunday, March 17, 2024, following a battle with cancer. He was 74.
Jerry was a passionate connoisseur of firearms and a discerning photographer. His appreciation for the arts extended to music, flowers, cinema, and all the wonders of space. He also had a discerning palate for tequila. Among his achievements, Jerry held a deep sense of pride for his distinguished service in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He served with distinction as an Aviation Ordnanceman, ultimately attaining the rank of sergeant. His unwavering commitment to duty and honor earned him the respect and admiration of his family and countrymen alike.
Jerry is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Carol, of 33 years, and his revered father, Wilbur, and his brothers, Don, and Carl. He is survived by his beloved mother, Elizabeth, his sister, Betty, his son, Chris Samson, daughter, Amy Love, stepson, Terrance Venné Jr., his wife, Annmarie Venné, stepdaughters Kelly Venné and Kim Venné Hollister, and her husband Gary Hollister. Jerry had a large extended family, all of whom were held dear to his heart. Jerry’s loyal canine companion, Mac, was a constant source of joy and comfort in his later years.
A private service will be held to honor Jerry’s life at the hallowed grounds of the Florida National Cemetery on Monday, April 15, 2024, in Bushnell, Florida. There, amidst the solemnity of Military Honors, Jerry will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Carol, in a final tribute to their love and shared journey.
In the twilight of his earthly existence, Jerry’s spirit shall forever illuminate the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him and, at times, loving him; his story and existence left to the very stars and the mysteries of cosmos he so loved.
