Officials: Bodies of missing Kissimmee woman, husband found in wooded area

Officials with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service confirmed on Tuesday that two bodies found in a wooded area in Osceola County belong to a married couple that was reported missing.

Earlier this month, on Saturday, April 6, 25-year-old Claudia Pena was last seen by her family in the area of Pesca Drive and Baleno Lane in Kissimmee. The following day, Pena and her husband, Nicolas Alvarez, were reported as missing to the Kissimmee Police Department.

On Friday, April 19, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office announced that a car belonging to Pena was located, and the remains of two individuals were found nearby in a wooded area.

OSCO stated in a social media post that some of the clothing on the remains found in the wooded area were “consistent with the clothing of (Pena).” The sheriff’s office added that the human remains were in the process of being positively identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office.

On Tuesday, April 23, a spokesperson with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service released the following statement: “I can confirm that the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office discovered the remains of Lance Cpl. Nicolas Alvarez and Claudia (Pena) Alvarez this weekend in Osceola.”

According to the sheriff’s office, an ongoing investigation has led detectives to believe that this is an “isolated incident” that poses no outstanding threats to the public.

No further details regarding this case have been released.
