Disney closing Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster until next summer for upgrades

Disney World will close an iconic roller coaster at one of its parks in order to upgrade the ride during the upcoming year.

The Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith will temporarily close beginning February 20, 2023 for refurbishment. According to the company, the ride will resume its “super-stretch limo rides” in the summer of 2023.

Opened in the summer of 1999, the 23-year-old ride has experienced multiple technical difficulties over the past year that caused it to close for days at a time. The attraction is located on Sunset Boulevard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios park. It follows the rock band Aerosmith on their trip to a concert across Los Angeles freeways.

The ride includes three inversions, two rollover loops, and one corkscrew, as well as a super-stretch limo equipped with 125 speakers, 24 subwoofers, and 32,000 watts of power. Each vehicle broadcasts different Aerosmith songs, including “Walk This Way,” “Dude (Looks Like a Lady),” “Sweet Emotion,” and “Back in the Saddle.”

Next month, the company will close down Splash Mountain after 33 years in operation in order to make way for a new, Princess and the Frog-themed ride.
