Sanford teen in serious condition after school bus hit by landscaping truck on SR 46

A Sanford teenager is in serious condition after the school bus she was riding home from school was involved in an accident on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place at 2:55 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 426 and State Road 46.

A landscaping bucket truck being driven by a 44-year-old Enterprise man was approaching CR 426 as he traveled eastbound on SR 46 in the right turn lane. The school bus, which had three students onboard, was approaching SR 46 as it traveled northbound on CR 426 in the left turn lane.

The driver of the bucket truck says that he was stopped at the red traffic light and proceeded to turn right to travel southbound on CR 426, while the driver of the school bus turned left to travel westbound on SR 46 on a green left turn signal.

The driver of the bucket truck failed to negotiate the turn correctly and exited the right turn lane, partially entering the left turn lane and striking the right side of the bus.

The collision forced the bus to collide with a 2007 Chevy Silverado Pick-up truck being driven by a 51-year-old Geneva man.

The bus driver and all three students, two 16-year-old girls and one 16-year-old boy, were transported to a local hospital. The driver, boy, and one of the girls received minor injuries from the crash.

The crash remains under investigation, according to FHP.
