Employee’s boyfriend kills man who attacked her after work at Sanford Bar

Sanford police are investigating the death of a man who allegedly attacked a woman after she got off work at a Sanford bar before he was shot by her boyfriend.

The fatal shooting took place on January 19, at around 2:20 a.m. in the parking lot of George’s Tavern.

Sanford Police Department officers responded to the tavern, which is located at 1011 French Avenue, after receiving a call reporting a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located an unidentified man in the rear parking lot who was deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage and, based on their initial investigation, determined that an employee of the business was getting into her vehicle after closing the bar for the night.

The employee’s boyfriend was nearby, waiting for the woman to finish her shift and safely enter her vehicle.

The unidentified man exited a port-a-potty located near the employee’s vehicle, and ambushed the woman. While he was attacking the woman, the employee’s boyfriend removed a firearm from his waist and shot the unidentified man.

Police say there are no charges pending for the woman or her boyfriend. Investigators are still working to determine the identity of the deceased male.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Sanford Police Department at 407-688-5070 or the Central Florida Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
