Keith Edward Sargent, age 80, died in St. Cloud, FL on December 31, 2022. He was born in Loughton, Essex, England on April 22, 1942, the middle son of Leonard and Alice Sargent of Ilford, East London.
In May 1958 the Sargent family: Leonard, Alice, Anthony, Keith and Paul emigrated to Canada, settling in Kingston, Ontario, where Keith was a 1960 graduate of Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute. This was followed by his attendance at the Canadian Services College in Victoria, British Columbia as part of service in the Canadian Army. In 1961, minus brother Anthony who remained in Canada, the Sargent family moved to Philadelphia, PA. Keith served two years in the US Army at Fort Hood, TX.
After the service, he returned to Philadelphia where he met and married fellow immigrant Veronica Ann McNeill of Edinburgh, Scotland. They were married for more than five decades and became American citizens in 2006. Keith was a manager for various metals companies in Philadelphia PA, Atlanta GA, and Houston TX before retiring there in 2009. He stayed active in his community through his volunteer work for his local government, voter registration drives, and poll watching.
He had a life-long love of travel and reading about science and British and American, especially Civil War, history. Keith spent many years coaching youth soccer teams, including those of two of his sons and was an avid remote fan of the West Ham United “Hammers” soccer team in the English Premier League. Keith was preceded in death by Veronica in April 2022.
He is survived by his sons Keith and Alastair (Carrie) of St. Cloud FL and Simon (Jane) of Alexandria VA and grandsons: Sam, Joseph, Michael of St. Cloud FL, and Alexander of Alexandria VA. He is also survived by nephews and nieces in Alberta, Canada, Ohio, and Australia.
